This paper studied high performance ironless permanent magnet motor. A 2.2kW prototype was turned out, and gains series of results which have certain academic level and engineering practical worth. This paper consists of several parts thereinafter:Firstly, the theory of the Halbach magnet array is analyzed, then taking a 8-pole motor as an example, the characteristic of the Halbach magnet array is analyzed either. Aiming at the multifold structure of the ironless permanent magnet motor, the flux density distribution of the gap and the yoke, which is produced by both Halbach magnet array and the conventional magnet array, is figured out. The merit and the flaw of the both array are revealed according to the contrasted result. Finally the gap flux density characteristic of the dual rotor is analyzed.The computer means of the key parameters including the gap flux density, the slot leak reactance, the armature reactance and the calculated length of the armature is studied and the formula is also put forward. The design method and the molding means of the slotless armature are analyzed. Explore the characteristic between power and power-angle which is different from the conventional permanent magnet motor.According to the design features of ironless permanent magnet motor, computer-aided design software is developed. The software is composed of the FORTRAN language used to compile the program of motor design and the VB language used to compile the friendly interface. The two languages are linked by Dynamic-Link Libraries that the creation and usage is discussed particularly.After summarizing the experience of the design and the test of the low power ironless permanent magnet motors, a 2.2kW prototype has been designed and the tests have been finished. According to the test result, the ironless permanent magnet motor has such merits as lower voice, higher efficiency, and so on. The key parameters and the test results are written in this paper.
