Research On Discharge Measurements Using A Phased Array Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler

Phased Array Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (PAADCP) is a new version of ocean current profiler developed in 1990s. It is an efficient tool for observing ocean current profile. Its basic principle is that underwater acoustic transducers emit directional acoustic pulses of a given frequency towards sea water, and then receive their corresponding echo signals reflected from acoustic scatters within sea water, thus by analyzing their Doppler information ocean current speed and direction at different water layers can be obtained. With the development of science and technology, requirements on ocean current measurement have been gradually increased. How to carry out a rapid and accurate ocean current measurement in real time for a wide area remains the main trend of technical development of ocean current measurement.This paper, in close combination with research on national "863" project "Phased Array Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler", discusses ocean current measurement methods of PAADCP, and mainly researches on the broadband scheme of ocean current measurement. It is to measure ocean current velocity by utilizing Doppler effect of broadband signal, that is, "Doppler time dilation".In the paper , pass the understanding of the basic theories of the Phased Array Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler, have narrated the course of ocean current measurement methods of PAADCP in detail and has derived the three-dimensional velocity of PAADCP , provide the procedure block diagram of the algorithm further;Follow algorithms and solve the fuzzy problem of the speed to the sea floor, is regarded as and tackled key problems, have made very good result too; At the same time , an analysis is performed by utilizing real data collected in lake and sea tests and comparison of similar PAADCP home and abroad is made with regard to measurement accuracy.
