Power load modeling is known as one of the most difficult problems in the power systems of the world. For a long time, the research of load modeling is behind the development of the power industry. In the article, the author introduces basic theory on load modeling from identification theory, model structure and identification for model parameters, especially introduces the research and application of the component- based approach. After the load characteristics investigation of Hunan Power System, we have obtained a lot of equipment composition proportion of typical power users, typical industries and transformer substations in Hunan Power System. Through identification modeling based on measured data from the substation fileds and Power System Dynamic Simulation Laboratory of Hunan University, we have gained the static and dynamic model parameters of typical electrical equipment. Combining the load characteristics statistics data from investigation of Hunan Province and making use of typical static parameter of electrical equipment, we adopt component-based approach to get the static and dynamic load model and parameter in typical industries. ON the basis above, we have obtained the static and dynamic load models of primary transformer substations (220KV) in Hunan Power System.On the basis of deeply understanding and researching in load modeling, we have developed a load characteristics database system for load modeling and for the research and application of load characteristics. The database is not only processing data in transformer substations for load modeling based on measurement, and also processing data which is investigated for load modeling based on component. Practices show that it has complete structure, friendly interface, convenient manipulation, reliable operation and good expansibility. It provides technological support to power system aggregate load modeling and load characteristics research.
