Conventional current transformer having been used widely in power system before, and taking an important part in nowadays power system. Electronic current transformer is novel current transformer that based on electronics technology and optic fiber communication technology. The main features of the transformer are: no iron core, light weight, no magnetic saturation and moreover, have other advantages such as the large range of transient and frequency response, excellent electrical magnetic compatibility. Recently this kind of transformer attract more and more researchers and enterprise to pay attention to it.In this paper, some main defects of conventional current transformer are investigated first of all, and then the operation principle and main features are fully introduced, and the develop prospects market prospects of the novel electronic current transformer are forecast at the same time.The paper laid the emphasis on the analysis of the basic operation principle of electronic current transformer based on the rogowski coil, especially on following works: make an detailed analysis on the structure, operation principle and methods immune to interference;The design of hardware include: modulate of the sensing signal, sample of the signal and analog to digital converter, optical to electronical conversion and translator, display of the result part and the communication with the PC. The design of the software include: sample and analog to digital conversion control part, calculate of the virtue value part, display and communicate part, all of these lower system software are finished with assembly language, on upper system realize the receive, display and monitor of the data that translate by the lower system, these software are design with VC. Finally some errors caused by many factors are analyzed on principle, and some methods are taken to minimize the impact of the interference.
