There is a large area of alkaline saline soil in Songnen plain of China, which thenational highway No.203 traverses. The highway construction of local area is puzzledincreasingly by the geological hazards such as the highway distresses of the roadbedsubsidence and collapse, because of the influence from bad engineering propertiesof saline soil.In order to utterly solve the problem of salinized highway distresses, this paper studiesthe characteristics of soluble salt, the physico-mechanical properties of the typicalsaline soil along the segment from songyuan to jinbaotun of the national highwayno.203. Some comments and suggestions are put forward, which can be served as animportant reference for highway construction and roadbed disease control in salinesoil area. These test results make it possible to further studies on the engineeringmechanics properties of saline soil carbonate. The field characters, the styles ofgeological diseases, the physicochemical properties and mechanical features of salinesoil are found out by the outdoor exploration, the samples collections and the indoorsoil mechanics test. Furthermore, the influences in the shear strength of the saline soilcoming into being by the moisture content and the Variations of the shear strength andthe hydrographic property following the salt content reach to the conclusions.The results showed that: (1)The leading content of dissoluble salt is NaHCO3 andNa2CO3, and the pH value is very high;(2) The key meneralogical composition ofsaline soil composed with silty clay is the quartz and the feldspar, and the clayminerals are mostly composed of I/S;(3) The shear strength (especial the cohesionforce) of the saline soil reduces with the moisture content gradually adding;(4) Theplastic property is enhanced whereas the shear strength(especial the cohesion force)falls following the salt content increasing. On balance, it is the existence of salt thataffects the engineering properties of saline soil differing from non-salinized soil.
