The people all over the world pay more and more attention to the importance of water, especially the sufficient exploitation of limited soft water resource. The construction of hydraulic projects is not only the main way of using water, but also the events concerning to managing state affairs in our country. Most hydraulic projects in our country were constructed early in establishment our state, and have been working for several years, so many of them are under serious condition. Whether hydraulic projects are safe or not will not only affect the benefit realize of flood control, water supply, electricity generation and so on, but also directly threat the safety of lives and properties of people downstream.Through rechecking existing conditions of spillway in Mayuan reservoir in Jiangxi province, this paper analyzes the existing problems and defects. Because the structure design of its spillway is unreasonable and the dewatering is not good so as to affect the overflow discharge and the safety of the project, some requirements about the rebuilt program are proposed. In order to release the conflict of water supply to downstream, following the principal of making full use of limited water resource, this paper puts forward to raise the norm pool level to increase the water storage to make better social and economic effects. Meanwhile by analyzing the balance on water supply and requirement, it is possible to raise the norm pool level to increase the water storage. Some aspects such as flood water, the anti-flood capability of the dam, the seepage stabilization and the dam slope stabilization, are checked for the reservoir after raising the norm pool level. In conclusion, the dam is safe to provide the safe rule for the dam operation in future. Three rebuilt programs which are ogee weir, maze weir and board-crest weir with controlled by gates are compared in technology and economy such as water discharge, flood level, structure safe stabilization and the project investment. At last, the maze weir program is best among the three ones. Because the experience about maze weir borrowing ideas form project cases is little and the information on theoretical study is not enough, correlation technical parameters are compared and selected, and the coefficients of discharge are properly modified.
