Bearing capacity evaluation of existing bridges is very important to bridge management, and it is also a relatively new field in bridge engineering. Shortage of shear strength may destroy a bridge in a brittle way and without enough warning signs, which is very dangerous, so shear strength evaluation is especially important. For an actual bridge, its shear strength depends on a lot of factors, such as structural material, structures deteriorations, environment factors, load conditions and so on. Most of them are fuzzy and random, and they interrelate and interact on each other, so it is very difficult to evaluate the shear strength. The evaluation method in present code is rough and includes overmuch subjective factors, therefore a scientific and feasible evaluation method for shear strength is greatly required.By analyzing general influencing factors to shear strength, the hierarchy model for shear strength evluation is built up by means of AHP, then all factors are ranked according to their status with qualitative estimation. Based on present code, a reasonable, feasible and simple shear strength evaluation system for existing reinforced concrete bridge is provided in this paper by means of fuzzy comprehensive evaluation.According to the above work, EBSES program for shear strength evaluation is developed with Java language. This program with friendly interface is useful in practice.
