Genetic algorithms, as a heuristic overall stochastic searching optimized method, has been widely used in many fields, such as engineering design, manufacturing industry, aritificial intelligence, computer science, bio-engineering, automatic control, optimizing design and so on.In this article, in order to resolve practical engineering problems, Genetic algorithms has been applied to hydraulic structure for reliability analysis of concrete gravity dam stability against sliding limit and intensity anti-pulled stress limit, as well as to optimize the water hydraulic structure building design, in which it might provide a new referenced mothod to project devisers.Firstly, this paper discussed systematically various number methods in reliability analysis of engineering structure at present time and summarized theirs advantages and disadvantages.To solve practical engineering problems, the article put forward genetic algorithms to the actual circumstance of engineering, Then the research made a detailed explain of its basic principl, character and theorem. At the same time, the author searched, cleaned up and summed up some articles of Genetic algorithms on engineering structure.Secondly, the article established a model of reliability analysis of concrete gravity dam, using genetic algorithms to the reliability analysis of the gravity dam. And the author developed a new method of the reliability calculation based on genetic algorithms and the respond surface Finite element method, analyzing the stress reliability of the unit of the Dam body. Simultanously, a new method has been provided to optimize the hydraulic structure building design based on the Genetic algorithms, which might be used as a reference of optimizing design of water hydraulic project structure building.Thirdly, the author edited an interface statement procedure of MATLAB language and Fortran language. Consequently, a new method has been devised for the mixed calculating method of reliability analysis. It made full use of the benefits of MATLAB language and Fortran language. If the calculate did not converge under the condition of applying geometric method compiled by Fortran language, then adjusted to use the MATLAB optimization tool box- genetic algorithms, making use of the strong searching ability of genetic algorithms to solve the problem,and might be used to the complicated practical engineering.Finally, the author made a conclusion of the article and looked forward to the development of the future work.
