After Yellow river tail transferred, The Yellow river delta erosion is very heavy. The sediments are scoured, The water depth increases, the shoreline retreats due to the action of tides and wavers , as well as the modern Yellow river is poor in water and sand. Because of the wave, wind and tidal current, the sea wall, the roads, houses and so on are destroyed. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to the coastal building stability. During coastal building stability, the study of maximum scour depth in front of coastal building is very important. This paper is based on experiment. The erosion forms and maximum scour depth are proposed from experiment and other people' s researches.Through analysis, on the data of water depth from 1976 to 2002 and in recent years, it is determined that the area in front of Gu dong breakwater has changed from the period of silting to the period of scouring. The erosion area can be divided into four parts. They are heavy erosion area, middling area, weak erosion area, and no erosion area. This paper counts the amount of scouring and scour rate every year.The scours of sea bed can be investigated by wave physical model test. The scouring patterns, scouring mechanisms and modified formula for prediction of maximum depth of scouring are given in this paper. The relationships of scouring patterns between vertical breakwater and slope breakwater are discussed.This paper counts the scour rate in the action of wave and current by "Partheniades" formula. And the maximum depth of scouring is obtained by modified formula for prediction, and the depth is approved by the data of water depth.
