Air stable 1,3-dialkyl imidazolium based room-temperature molten salts have been extensively utilized for a variety of electrolytes in batteries and capacitor. These ionic liquids possess several properties, which make them attractive alternatives to traditional nonaqueous electrolytes. Chief among these were non-volatility, non-flammability, and high thermal and electrochemical stability. They were also recyclable and more environmentally benign than most conventional organic solvents. Here we performed some work on application of ionic liquids as electrolytes in capacitors on the basis of the existing results. This thesis consists of three chapters. The purpose of the first chapter is not only to survey the research progress of capacitors in whole world but also the history, properties and preparation of ionic liquids. Based on this information I put forward my purposes and researches in this filed. The second chapter shows applications of ionic liquid in supercapacitors. This chapter is divided into two parts. 1. It was found that the addition of small amounts of polar organic solvent could enhance the conductivity of the resulting electrolyte. This addition also could improve the electroactivity, stability and capacitance of the polyaniline films. 2. A metal oxide pseudocapacitor half-cell based on amorphous V2O5/carbon composite electrode and ionic liquids was manufactured in our work. Through a series of experiments, it was verified that a sufficient capacitor performance could be obtained by utilizing insertion and extraction of lithium ion and ionic liquid electrolytes. By replacing the conventionally used aqueous electrolytes with ionic liquid electrolytes, the electric energy subsequently can be great increased and it's also an environmental friendly...
