Tracking precision is a main technology index for O-E theodolite. To improve the tracking precision of O-E theodolite, more and more complicated real time arithmetics are used for the servo control, so servo controllers with high performance is necessary to complete more operations in shorter and shorter time. On the other hand, controllers applied for the servo system of theodolite presently are almost industrial computers with PC/104 structure, which need lots of electronic boards to compose a set of successful controller. So not only the cubage of a control system is increased, the reliability undermined, but the cost of such set of controller like this is several thousand yuan, even much more than ten thousand yuan sometimes. Considering the reasons above, the author designed a set of controller based on DSP applied for the servo control system of a theodolite from hardware, software to arithmetic. It is better than before, whether in the face of price, reliability, or operation performance. In the end of this paper, a DC motor with fixed load replacing theodolite as controlled object, a set of controller based on DSP is tested in laboratory, and the results are shown. At the same time, about the problem in the test, the author's view is given.
