Because of upgrading essential infrastructure, accidental damages and aging of the structures, the studies on strengthening and retrofitting structures were more and more concerned by countries of the world. Fiber reinforced polymer (FRP), a perfect material for strengthening and retrofitting, has been widely used in the field of strengthening structures due to its advantages such as high strength and strength-to-weight ratio, high corrosion resistance, good fatigue properties. Recently, a new technology of strengthening structures with near surface mounted FRP has been proposed. The beams are strengthened using FRP inserted into a groove cut at the bottom surface of the beam. It's a promising technology for increasing flexural and shear strength of a deficient reinforced concrete (RC) member effectively.Based on the results of four-point bending tests of 10 RC beams, this thesis studies the flexural performance of the strengthening RC beams with near surface mounted CFRP strips. It describes the process and phenomenon of the experiment in detail, studies and analyses the failure modes and flexural strength, flexural rigidity, cracks distributing of the test beams. It gives a simple and valid flexural strengthen model. After comparing with the results of experiment and theory, it made sure of the validity of this model. In addition, it analyses the influence of the parameters to the strengthened beams, such as CFRP bonded length and groove size, different strengthened methods, etc. Then it gives some relative advises for practical engineering applications.
