In recent years the increasing development of China's economic status in the world helps promote the globalization of the cities in China. And the macro-control of the country's economic structure renders the market economy highly mature, which contributes to the rapid growth of the exhibition industry. Therefore, new exhibition buildings for business purposes are springing up all the time in various parts of the country as the infrastructures of urban construction improve on a large scale.Modern exhibitions dates back to 1851 when the first International Fair was held in London, its exhibition hall "the crystal palace" coming to be known over the centuries. The 1878 international fair in Paris brought cultural elements into exhibition by promoting cultural exchange and enriching exhibition activities. The 21th century saw more exhibitions held for business and commerce, though from time to time they include the display of art and culture. Trade exhibition buildings, together with their unique building space complex and style, present themselves as a special urban landscape. This paper presents an analysis of the existing problems of large trade exhibition buildings in China, such as: the problem of relative shortage or surplus of exhibition facilities; the problem of lack of long-term planning and appropriate distribution, smaller size being unable to meet the market demand; the problem of lack of effective macro-control and trade discipline and the low level of standardization and management; the problem of lack of distinctive feature and competitiveness; the problem of the improvement of administrationThe following suggestions are proposed: high-grade large trade exhibition buildings in Beijing and Shanghai; the scientific demonstration of the building model and site in smaller cities; the adoption of flexible planning and dynamic development in line with market growth.Modern large exhibition buildings chiefly include the following models: the large exhibition city model; the large exhibition hall model; the multi-functional building complexfor trade and commerce model; multi-functional trade exhibition building cluster model. In comparison the similarity lies in their considerable exhibition facilities in all the above four models while they are different in the proportion of the internal function formation and the scale of display, which results in the difference in their service radiation range and site position. The exhibition industry can promote regional growth of commerce and the development of the tertiary industrial sectors and thus the development of urban construction.Situated in the center of the Northeastern Economic Ring, the Changchun municipal government commissioned Changchun Economic Development Zone to set up the world-class exhibition center, building up the image of international market in order to meet the requirement of market economy. Two considerations were taken into account in determining the site for the Changchun International Exhibition Center, ie, incorporating the model of site choice of the new development zone and that of city development pattern. The determination of large tradeexhibition building sites usually involves three factors- traffic, service facilities andsurroundings. The paper provides a detailed analysis of the guiding principles employed in determining the site of the above center, confirming that construction site choice belongs to the same model of the choice for the construction of the development zone and providing a general planning scheme of the center including the considerations of outside service and weather factors. Finally a concrete plan is presented for the construction of Changchun International Exhibition Center, the layout plan of which includes brief yet effective arc structure, separate yet closely connected exhibition partitions, sizable sandwich space, entrance and exit design, bathroom design and arrangement of elevators. The design of section and space is based on two principles: the first, to create spaces with different heights to accommodate exhi...
