A new type of motor, called switched hybrid motor (SHBM), is a hybrid (stepping) motor with rotor position close-loop control. As the representative of modern electrical machines, switched hybrid motors combine the electrics technique and the advanced microprocessor control technique, which are used for low speed high precision position and have the advantage of better copper utilization. Thus, switched hybrid motors find applications in many industrial areas such as packing machines, conveyor systems, robot arm movement, lift and stack machine tools.This paper mainly focuses on the application of switched hybrid motor in low-speed high-precision position, and has done further innovational research as well as experimental research.Firstly, the author summarized and analyzed the present and the prospective of switched hybrid motor and relative techniques based on a large number of referenced materials, presented the several advantages of SHBM compared with other minor motors, further made the significance of developing this kind of system clear.Secondly, the author gives rise to the idea of a new integrated position sensor in hybrid stepping motor position servo system. The theory of this new sensor is analyzed using the method of specific permeance of air gap. On this base, the achievement of continuous rotor position detection by the variation of the reluctance of stepping motor is proposed. This position sensor of built-in technology makes the foundation of self-synchronous closed-loop control of stepping motor.Thirdly, a set of practical SHBM system is developed, which based on DSP control technique and power electronics converting technique. The design of this system fully displayed the flexibility of SHBM in high precision position area.Finally, experiments have been done this practical system. The experimental results validated and deepened the conclusions drawn from theoretical research. The compare between the results from experiments and theory also testified thepracticability of the mathematical models presented in this paper.
