The research of housing image collected and analyzed the feedback information of city inhabitants' resident situation. The object of the research was the interactive relationship between the inhabitants' feeling, their behavior tendency and the physical environment. This thesis discussed how to face "resident needs" changes and other interrelated problems.Social Survey is the primary method to acquire first hand information. And Internet became the main medium of housing image questionnaire survey. Base on the questionnaire survey, 9 representative projects were selected. Field surveys and inhabitions' interviews were taken in the 9 projects, in order to acquire the inhabitions' resident feeling further.Based the survey data, there are three cognitive scales in the housing image. They are housing scale, community scale and extensive community scale. In these scales, the inhabitions' privacy and community identification are different. Elements of environment image, such as path, place and domain, are adapted basically to the residential area, but some meaning adjustments are required. Additionally, housing which works as goods in market economy made the phenomena of city residential space separation. The thesis discussed the reason of the phenomena and possible planning countermeasures against the separation.
