The digital level has some attractive features, including high measuring speed, high accuracy, simple operation, direct observation and automatic recording of data, and it is easy to transport measuring data into computer and unify the intern and extern operation of level measurement. So it has gained popularity quickly among customers since it appeared in the market. But there is no professional or national standard to assess the digital level so far. Therefore, how to assess the digital has become an urgent issue of factory and quality administration department.The measurement principle of various digital level and errors sources, especially the code method is discussed in this paper. And the conceptions and methods of testing of the digital level's resolution are studied. Then a new testing method by optics micrometer is proposed with primary experiment results. A new micrometer for testing the digital level's resolution is designed. On the basis of summarizing the methods for calibration of digital level, we present two measurement procedure for system calibration of digital level by double frequency laser interferometer and linear encoder .The new testing method by linear encoder gives us a good result in testing digital level and staffs at the same time. It has more convenience, lower cost, high accuracy and resolution in harsh environments.
