As a new non-contacting, no-leaking face seal, in the past few years, the spiral groove seal has been used widely in many fields, such as the aviation-aerospace and the petrochemical industry. To settle for the special work-conditions' seal demand and with the academic development of gaseous spiral groove seal and application in industry, liquid spiral groove seal research desiderates urgently a great development. But such research is very limited and has not been investigated in domestic at the present time. The purpose of this project is to satisfy this requirement and establish the base for farther research.With summarized a great deal of datum in home and overseas, the paper will discuss performances of liquid spiral groove seal from several aspects, such as its principle, developmental actuality and seal capability.The paper introduces firstly a new brief and fast method that derived from spiral groove seal analytics. This method has been applied in the program system design of out-armed-out-flow spiral groove seal. Then with finite difference method, the paper solves the Reynolds Equation, which has been applied as math-model of spiral groove seal numerical research. A class structure of the computation of model-build, finite difference calculate, film- characteristic and friction and lubrication has been developed. All of these computations are treated as objects. Methods and data are encapsulated and inherited by these objects. The numerical program system for spiral groove seal has been developed. At the same time, the calculated values have been compared with the available data, the results show that the error is within the allowable range, therefore the correctness and reliability of the program system is verified. Finally, two-side temperature-field state of spiral groove seal is analyzed with ANSYS software. Furthermore, the paperintroduces the heat-resistance theory in spiral groove seal's temperature-field analysis. The results of this finite element analysis show that this method which applied in analyzing spiral groove seal's temperature-field is feasible.
