With the development of the economy, the structural form and function of residence put forward the new request for load and resistance. Adjusting equilibrium level of reliability between economy and security has become a problem to resolve urgently. In order to achieve the whole target that the design reference period is heightened from 50 years to 100 years, the old residential load data should be updated in a large scale, which is an important fundamental work to the study and design of structural reliability. This research is a part of "The Reliability Study of Residential Buildings", that is the National Tenth Five-Year Projects of science and technology. Based on the investigation of typical multistorey and high-rise residential buildings in Xi'an and Baotou, a great quantity of residential floor live load data are gathered. Since live loads on floor are usually expressed in terms of uniformly distributed loads for design purpose, in this paper, the sustained live load on floor are calculated respectively with the average load in room area and in batten area, while the transient live load on floor are computed with the average load in room area. Making use of the mathematical statistics analysis, probability distributions and statistical parameters of the sustained and transient quality of residential floor live load is studied. Thereby the distributed models and parameters of the sustained live load and the transient live load on residential floor are obtained at design reference period T=50 years and T=100 years. Our country's characteristic value of live load on residential floor is advanced.
