The concrete-filled steel structure has developed fast in our country in the last two decades. The new structures are brimming with vigor along with the high strength concrete coming on. Reactive powder concrete (RPC) is a new kind of compound concrete that has ultra -high strength, high ductility. Besides having characteristic of concrete filled steel tubular, RPC filled steel tubular structure can decrease cross section owing to the ultra -high strength of RPC, and economize on concrete and small dead load. The structures have broad prospects in high commercial and civil building, many-storied factories, high-span bridges and urban traffic. Based on the experiments and the research on RPC filled steel tubular structure at home and abroad. The experimental study of 18 RPC filled tubular steel short columns has yielded some positive results:1. The paper made up experiment on the strain, deformation and ultimate loading capacity of the specimens on the different load and collects the data. 2. The behavior of RPC filled steel stub-columns is analyzed base on the result of the experiment. The influence of several parameters including strength of RPC (fc), hoop coefficient (ξ) and ratio of slenderness (L/D) on the bearing capacity of RPC filled steel tubular. 3. By checked the results of experiment against the results of simplified calculating formula, discuss representative design methods of concrete filled steel tubular columns in different codes. Based on the result of experiment, this paper proposes the simplified calculating formula of ultimate strength of RPC filled steel tubular. The calculated results fit with those of tests satisfactorily.4. Discuss the peak strain and plateau(remaining) strength of RPC filled steel tubular.The research works in this paper make it possible to study the bearing capacity of RPC filled steel tubular further. The results presented in this paper may be a reference for practical engineering.
