| With the development of economics, the autonmation of distribution management is an urgent need. Because of the spatial property of the data of the distribution network, the Geography Imformation System(GIS) can process the spatial data to meet the needs of distribution management that MIS can not.In this paper, after a brief introduction of the basic component of GIS and the overview of distribution automation, some methods and applications of GIS is given to realize the automation of distribution management. The key problems such as the topology of spatial data, the algorithms of spatial analysis on distribution and design of the spatial Decision Support System based on GIS are emphasized.lt is also described that power-off analysis function's related algorithm is deduced in terms of primary algorithm.
