Seismic Finite Element Analysis Of Polymer Geogrid Reinforced Earth Walls

In this thesis, firstly, the engineer advantage of Geogrid Reinforced Earth walls is introduced, and the working mechanism and the calculation method of Geogrid Reinforced Earth wall are analysed. Recent developments on Reinforced Earth walls under seismic excitation in our country and on the world are presented. The necessity of researching Geogrid Reinforced Earth wall under seismic excitation and the advantage of researching Geogrid Reinforced Earth walls with Seismic Finite Element Analysis Method are proposed.Secondly, a small scale Geogrid Reinforced Earth wall experimental model is designed, and its nonlinear seismic behavior under seismic excitation is analysed by Seismic Finite Element Analysis Method. The analysis results discover some seismic response laws of Geogrid Reinforced Earth wall under seismic excitation. It is a good base of deeply researching Geogrid Reinforced Earth wall under earthquake.Finally, According to the analysis results of small scale Geogrid Reinforced Earth wall model by Seismic Finite Element Analysis Method, the author proposes that the maximum stress points line, i. e. potential collapse face, keep unchanged in shape regardless of the magnitude of vibration, the horizontal earthquake force can be simply considered as a horizontal inertia of the collapse wedge, and the seismic stress increment is distributed among the different layers of geogrid proportional to their resistant lengths. Furthermore, a simple method of calculating the seismic stress increment of the different geogrid reinforced layers is concluded and recommended based on this idea.The method of Finite Element Analysis for Geogrid Reinforced Earth walls and the conclusions (got by Finite Element Analysis) are referable to the preparation for design specification of Geogrid Reinforced Earth walls subjected to seismic loadings.
