The discs and doughnuts pulsed extraction column is development to meet the requirement of TRPO process. The influence of the plate spacing on hydrodynamic characteristics and mass transfer characteristics in the discs and doughnuts pulsed extraction columns has been studied. The diameter of the column is 38mm, and the plate spacings are 15mm, 12mm and 10mm.In the experiment of the hydrodynamic characteristics, the 30% TRPO/OK-HNO3 system is used. With three different plate spacings in this system, there are satisfactory flooding throughputs. We need increase pulse intensity in order to have preferable dispersion circumstance. Under the same pulse intensity, there are bigger flooding throughputs and lower characteristic velocity when the plate spacing is 12mm. And with the increasing of the pulse intensity, the hold-up increase smoothly.If the plate spacing is changed to the 15mm or 10mm, the hold-up increase quickly. The study on mass-transfer performance in discs and doughnuts pulsed extraction column with Nd(NO3)3-HNO3-H2O and 30 %TRPO-kerosene system is established for simulation of removing transuranic from high level liquid waste. The experiment results show that the heights of theoretical equivalent stage are in ranges of 40-60 cm. The results improve that investigated column is suitable for TRPO process. Comparing the stability of the mass-transfer performances with three different plate spacings, the mass transfer characteristic of 12 mm is better and more steadily than that of 15 mm and 10mm.
