Signal flare is a kind of characteristic ammunition using the signal by light-emitting,sound or smoke to complete such tasks as identification, location, alarm, command, contact. It has spread of distance, easy to distinguish, favors the observation etc. characteristics. So it has been concerned universally by all the country army. In order to validate flare performance, ensure quality, inspection departments must detect the launch height of the flare products. At present, in domestic and foreign, Flare height measurement methods were rare.The thesis puts forward a measurement method for flare height based on the sound and light characteristics, this main uses the large difference characteristics of sound and light velocity in the air producing by launched flare. Flare after launch will always shine in the air, on the rise to near peak or highest, it will issue an explosion sound, the brightness of the light suddenly enhanced, the brightness of the light and the intensity of sound achieve the strongest at this moment and the two signals spread to the ground meanwhile. The launch altitude of signal flare is Within about 300 meters, the sound and both has the characteristics of linear transmission, and sound and light travels faster vary greatly, base on these characteristics, ignoring light travel time in this distance, Using sound velocity in the air multiplied by propagation timing difference between sound and light can calculate signal flare launch altitude.The thesis has completed the software and hardware circuit design and commissioning of the measuring system. The hardware mainly includes sensors collecting and signal regulating circuit, A/D transform circuit, MCU signal processing module, LCD module; The software mainly design the software flow chart, write the A/D collection program, MCU signal processing program and liquid crystal display program. Signal processing process of the measurement system is as follows: In appropriate position on the ground, put a sensitive sound sensor and a light sensor, to collect the sound and light in the explosion highest respectively. The collected sound signals and light signals will be converted to electrical signals, the weak sensor signal will be input the signal disposal circuit and be changed the digital signal after the A/D conversion. Then the digital signal is sent into Single-chip to be processed. Through the digital signal filtering processing, compiling corresponding program, the acousto-optic signal propagation timing difference produced when the flare launched to the highest could be measured. Finally, through the SST89E516 chip simulation and the indoor experimental confirm the time difference between a group of sound and light, the thesis uses the fireworks to simulate the signal flare and achieved satisfactory results, the correctness of the measurement principle, the operability and accuracy of the measurement system could be verified.Finally, the thesis summarizes the whole work, analyzes the deficiency and put forward the prospects for the future work. The height measurement system for the signal flare based on the characteristics of sound and light based on single chip, operates simply and stably, has low cost ,measurement precision could be greatly increased by improving system. So it has relatively broad prospect of application.
