Comb-type Breakwater double as Pier Structure is a form of exploration of the hydraulic structure. Waterproof caissons, which are obtained by both moving the two flange slabs from the middle of the side wall to one end, and extend the two slabs to the bottom on the basis of pervious caissons, are exploited as main structures in this exploration. Thus, mooring conditions are improved and the comb-type concept is expanded to port structures..The two flange slabs are essential for the waterproof caisson, and the present paper will undertake a study of them through both physical modeling and finite element analysis.Absorbing properties of the waterproof structure is discussed through analyzing physical modeling results, and comparison of traditional vertical wall structures, waterproof caisson is carried out. Wave force in flange slab designing is also determined. The linear elastic finite element analysis of the flange slabs including four bearing types is carried out. Stress distribution and extreme stress comparison, as well as reinforcement design is accomplished. Vibration analysis is also carried out to make sure whether the resonance will be produced or not.Problems, such as model selection, element type, constitutive model, strength criterion, cracking and crushing of concrete, which are all essential in FEM Analysis are discussed. One example about a simply supported plate is fitted to show that our processes about all above are suitable. Performance testing is accomplished through taking advantage of FEM Analysis Software, and the nonlinear analysis of the flange slabs with different bearing types is conducted, on the basis of which, recommendation on bearing type is taken out through comparing the cracking conditions, construction and cost.Comparisons in overturning stability, stability against sliding and foundation stress are separately carried out between comb-type structures and traditional vertical wall structures.
