Vector hydrophone is a new type of underwater acoustic receiver in the terminal stage of twenty century. It gets the information about scalar quantity and vector at the same time in the underwater sound field, improving capability of underwater acoustic equipment. Demand by faraway detective and low frequency measurement, the trend of development of vector hydrophone turns to low frequency, little size, high sensitivity. The piezoelectric bimorph type vector hydrophone offers a way for it.Firstly, the principles and characteristics about piezoelectric bimorph type vector hydrophone are studied in this paper. The theory of rigid column receiving capability, the characteristic parameters of vector hydrophone, the principles of acceleration sensor, the Finite Element Analysis of piezoelectric acceleration sensor and so on which are analyzed in this paper.Secondly, the relation between capability and parameter of the piezoelectric bimorph type acceleration sensor is analyzed with the Finite Element Analysis. A new structure of vibration is offered to improving the acceleration sensor. Compared with traditional structure, it has many advantages, just as small size, light weight, high sensitive and so on. The two kinds of acceleration sensor are designed after analyzing many elements which can affect the capability, the structure of a Two-Dimensional vector hydrophone which includes the two kinds of acceleration sensor is also analyzed.Lastly, five piezoelectric bimorph type acceleration sensors are made including two which use the new structure. By measurement and test of vibration, the acceleration sensors with new structure have higher sensitive which coincide with the theory. By measurement and test in pool, the Two-Dimensional vector hydrophone with the new sensors has higher sound pressure sensitive.
