Since the discovery of the carbon nanotubes,its unique structure and unusual properties have attracted much atteion in variety of fields.The research of carbon nanotubes has great sense.Carbon nanotube has quasi-one-dimensional tubular sturcture,so it owns great specific surface area.The diameter of it is several nanometers,but its length can get several micrometers,this makes carbon nanotube possesses great mechanical strength characteristics,which is 100 times of steel.The C-C chemical bonding of carbon nanotube makes it owns splendid electric properties.In additon,carbon nanotube also has the ability to fill and adsorb.Because of its characteristics.we use it in the proton exchange membrane fuel cell.In the first chapter of this paper. the discovery and characteristics of carbon nanotube were reviewed, and the mechanism of growth, type and application of carbon nanotube were also described. Then we acquaintance the prince of proton exchange membrane fuel cell and the importance of its catalyst.Finally we introduce the present situation and the future of proton exchange membrane fuel cell.In the second chapter of this paper.the preparation of the fuel cell materials has been introduces in detail.The foamed nickel has been dipped into the PTFE in order to make it hydrophobic.We use the arc discharge to make the single-wall carbon nanotubes grown on the nickel directly,and the multi-wall carbon nanotubes have been prepared with the silk-screen printing.Besides.the proton exchange membrance has also been treated to be hydrophilic.In the end.the catalyst layer and proton exchange membrance were heat pressed and made into MEA.In the last part of the paper,the materials of the fuel cell have been represented.The carbon nanotube has been measured by the TEM,raman spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis.Then we represent the performance of the fuel cell,and displayed the E-t curves.At the end of this paper,we analysed the deficiencies and related improvements were also introduced and put forward some ideas, which will be the focus of future work.
