The spot welding technology which is the fundamental method connects the thin steel plate component,is widely apply by its high-efficiency,simple operation, and easy to realize in the machinery automation.Vehicle body structures are formed by thousands of spot welds.If the weld spots are not well arranged as a reason of cursorily design or technics,the number of useless weld spots will increase,and every single increasement of a weld spot will lead to an increasement of the cost of the product line by 30,000 dollars.From the mechanical point of view,the weld spots will result in a more serious stress concentration,thus the initiation and growth of a fatigue crack may become easy. So it is of important to study the static strength of a spot welding joints.Body panels are usually connected by a number of spot welding. Welded components are diverse in cross-section shape, but the welding area are two overlaped plates. This paper investigates on two spot welding overlaped plates. These beam structures are widely applied in auto body. The weld spot is modeled by a rigid beam element in finite element analysis.The main work in the dissertation is arranged as follows:(1) Set up the three-dimensional geometric models in ANSYS by the design size.The panels are modeled by shell elements while weld spots are modeled by beam elements.(2) Two overlaped plates are connected by one weld spot.Creat different models of spot diameter to stuy on the impact of spot size for spot welding part static strength.(3) Create different models of lap length, study on the impact of lap length for welded components.(4) Define uniform distribution weld spots by the order from less to more,stuy on the impact of spot pitch for welding components intensity.(5) According to the design size,set up several rows of weld spot by the order from less to more.Study on the impact of rows of weld spot for spot welding part intensity.(6) Set up different kinds of spot welding models having the same amount of weld spots and different disposal form. Study on the impact of weld spot disposal form for spot welding part intensity.(7) Plot the curves of max stress vs.one of various factors in matlab.lt is easy to find out how the max stress varies as the one of various factors getting larger and larger from the curves.Finally, main results and conclusions of this dissertation have been summarized; the prospects and study emphases of the future research work have been discussed and forecast.
