In this paper, D. margaritae cane is the main object and rattan cores which are gained after the cane's scarfskin is removed are used as panels. The rattan based composites were produced and their properties were studied At first, the structures of recombined panels of rattan cores and rattan-wood composites were designed, then with wood and D. margaritae cores as panels, recombined panels of rattan cores and rattan-wood composites were produced and the main factors which influenced their properties were researched. At last, the mechanical properties, combustion and sound absorption properties were also tested. It can be concluded that the panels are potential to be used as indoor panels for decoration and furniture panels.Main results are summarized as follows:From the research, the process parameters are as follows: the hot press temperature is 135 centigrade, hot press time is 1.0 minute per 1 millimeter, the hot press pressure is 5.0 MPa, the resin sprayer is 120 gram per 1 square meter, and the compression ratio is 10 percent. By adopting the process, the main performances of recombined panels of rattan cores are as follows: density 0.29g/cm3, swelling rate of water absorption within two hours 4.68%, inner bond strength 0.80MPa, modulus of rupture 14.7MPa, modulus of elasticity 949MPa. The mechanical properties of rattan-wood composite with compressed veneer on the surface layer and rattan cores inside are as follows: density 0.43 g/cm3, thickness swelling rate of water absorption 4.70%, inner bond strength 1.0MPa, modulus of rupture 48.3MPa, modulus of elasticity 7577MPa. And the mechanical properties of rattan wood composite with ordinary veneer on the surface layer and rattan cores inside are as follows: density 0.34 g/cm3, thickness swelling rate of water absorption within two hours 4.04%, inner bond strength 0.68MPa, modulus of rupture 39.6MPa, modulus of elasticity 6344MPa.The main relationship between process and properties is as follows: phenol-formaldehyde Resin sprayer has a significant influence on modulus of rupture and modulus of elasticity (except for inner bond strength and thickness swelling rate of water absorption within two hours). And the structure of panels has significant influence on their mechanical properties. That is, the panel that the compressed veneer is put on the surface layer and the rattan cores are laid inside has the best mechanical properties. The result of combustion properties showed that the TTI and EHC of recombined panels of rattan cores were almost the same as that of rattan-wood composite. But its average HRR and MLR were smaller. The research results of flame retardant property are as follows: With the increase of the quantity of fire retardant, the heat release rate, and total heat release of the panel reduce, the mass of residue grows and the ignition time prolongs. When the concentration of fire retardant reaches about 15%, more quantity has no obvious influence on the combustion properties. What's more, the panels have different combustion properties treated with different fire retardants. The combustion properties of panels treated with fire retardant dispensed by myself are better. Its HRR and THR are lower and the rate of char content is higher.Treatment with Fire retardant has some influence on the performances of panels For the recombined panels of rattan cores which was first treated with fire retardant and then was pressed, fire retardant has no significant influence on its inner bond strength and modulus of elasticity (except for modulus of rupture). For the one that wholly treated with fire retardant, fire retardant has no significant influence on its inner bond strength, modulus of rupture and modulus of elasticity. The sound absorption of rattan based composites: rattan based composite has fine medium-high frequency absorption performance. In the medium-high frequency band, the absorption properties of recombined panels of rattan cores is better than that of plywood and rattan and wood composite with same thickness and density. The density of rattan and wood composite has obvious influence on sound absorption. The rattan and wood composite with higher density has smaller sound absorption coefficient under the same conditions.
