Seed-coating formulation is a kind of agrochemicals with film-forming properties which is used for seeds of crops and other plants.film-forming agent is one of the critical component of seed-coating formulation, which is to ensure that seed-coating agent has a certain viscosity, good film-forming property and appropriate uniformity and to maintain physical and chemical properties of seed-coating agent and control the slow release of active constituent.Many high polymer materials have good film-forming properties, but the majority of them have a certain effect on the seeds germination and the growth of seedling when they are used in seed coating on plants especially on crops.To correct the shortcoming, existing in the film-forming agent for seed coating, polymer film former in particular, the paper researched new seed coating with film-forming agent, which of good film performance and biocompatibility, compatibility with high performance active ingredients, on seed germination, seedling growth and development without adverse impact on the building suitable for plants, especially with the crop root growth and development of favorable micro-environment.According to the past studies in our laboratory, AMPS copolymer has excellent biocompatibility, slow release and film-forming properties.New functional material—AMPS was used in synthesis of film-forming agent for seed coating formulation. We surveyed the performance and applicable effect of film-forming agent with AMPS/VAc/BA ternary soap-free copolymer for seed coating formulation and film-forming agent with AMPS/St/BA copolymer for rice seed coating formulation.Our research results showed that:(1)AMPS/VAc/BA ternary soap-free emulsion polymerization was used for preparation of film-forming agent of seed-coating formulation. The influences of the mass ratio of BA/VAc, contents of initiator, AMPS, crosslink on the performance of film-forming agent were investigated. The results show that the film-forming agent with best properties could be prepared when the mass ratio of BA/VAc was 2:1, the mass of initiator and AMPS was 1.4% and 4% of monomers respectively, the mass of crosslink agent was 2%. Furthermore, this kind of film-forming agent has better water resistance, water uptake and biocompatibility. The seed-coating agent which was prepared by synthesis of this film-forming agent and other accessory ingredients is harmless to germination of seeds, and moreover, the expulsion rate is low.(2)With 2-acrylamide-2-methyl-propanesulfonic acid (AMPS) as hydrophilic anionic monomer,and styrene (St) and butyl acrylate (BA) as the hydrophobic monomer,the film-forming agent (namely AMPS/St/BA copolymer) for rice seed coating formulation was synthesized by emulsion copolymerization.The influences of contents of AMPS, initiator, emulsifiers (SDS/DNS-458) and cross-linking agent on the performance of film-former were investigated. Synthetic film-forming agent has a good water resistance and biocompatibility, suitable for preparation of a high water requirement of rice seed coating.The results show that the film-former with better water resistance, water uptake and high solids content,conversion could be prepared when the mass of AMPS, initiator and crosslink agent was 4%,0.3%and 3% of monomers respectively, the mass of emulsifiers was 3% of monomers and the ratio of SDS and DNS-458 was1:3.(3)Hydrophilic anionic monomer AMPS has good biocompatibility and don't affect seed germination and seedling growth and development. The copolymer of AMPS and hydrophobic monomer has excellent film-forming properties and biocompatibility. The seed-coating formulation prepared by this film former is used on the seed coating treatment. It's very favorable to create a micro-environment which is suitable to plant, especially to the growth and development of the crop root.
