In recent years, water-soluble polymer in the various aspects of the national economy has been widely used, and the hydrophobic association water-soluble polymer(HAWP) has recently become a focus of study because of their unique performance in polymer chemistry industry. This article is mainly studying on the relationship between the micro-structure and macroscopic rheology of the hydrophobic association water-soluble polymer solution , and the interaction between the polymer and anionic surfactants sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). Rheological experiments show that this novel hydrophobic association water-soluble polymer has a special rheology. We have studied on the micro-structure of the polymer solution , it shows that the polymers form a hydrophobic micro-district in solution. And under the critical association concentration(CAC,2%wt), it is associated mainly in the inter-molecular;on the contrary the polymer is associated in the intra-molecular when concentration is above the CAC. The apparent viscosity of polymer solution increased rapidly with the concentration above CAC increased. By fluorescence spectroscopy and frozen etching electron microscope we have proved that the HAWP has fermed intra and inter molecular micro-area association in solution through the formation of a hydrophobic group , which will turn to three-dimensional network. This network has given the HAWP solution special rheology. Rheological experiments and micro-structure analysis showed that the HAWP interacted with the surfactant molecules strongly, then impact the macroeconomic rheology of the polymer solution.
