Stainless steel(1Cr18Ni9Ti), titanium alloy(TC4) and Superalloy (GH4169) are widely used in aviation and spaceflight field ,which bad cutting capability yet. Conventional method to solve that is to use Extreme pressure cutting fluid appended element such as sulfur, chlorine phosphorus in cutting processes, which can reduce the temperature effectively in cutting section, ameliorate friction state among tool, chip and workpiece surface, accordingly reduce the abrasion of cutting tool and raising the surface quality. but using the cutting fluid will pollute the environment and be harm to the operator, so it's necessary to find a kind of green cutting fluid with better cooling and lubricating property. as a kind of cutting fluid. Water vapor has a lot of advantage such as cheap, no pollution, no reclaim on harm etc, which give a new idea and new method for green cutting technique. it's a new kind green cutting technique to use Water vapor as cutting fluid.Firstly, the small water vapor generator was developed based on the overview and the application of engineering thermodynamics, hydrodynamic theory to calculate the flow and energy of the small water vapor generator and water vapor feed system, which provided postulate for investigation of cutting experiment that use water vapor as coolants and lubricants.Secondly, single-factor experiment of tool abrasion about Stainless steel1Cr18NiI9Ti, titanium alloy TC4and Superalloy GH4169 are done using YG6 tool, the same experiment about 45 Steel is done too using YT15 Cemented Carbide tool, which draw regularity of tool abrasion in the condition that take emulsion or water vapor as coolants and lubricants or in the condition of dry cutting. The result show that abrasion of tool rear face using water vapor as coolants and lubricants reduce 50% or so than using emulsion as coolants and lubricants and 25% than dry cutting when cutting stainless steel, titanium alloy and superalloy.Thirdly, based on the study of tool life, obtained the relation of cutting speed and tool life when cutting difficult-to-cut materials referred under three cutting conditions, which shows that water vapor can increase tool life, respectively more than 50% and 25%.Lastly, by means of analysis of SEM and EDS about front face and rear face, abrasion Mechanism of cutting process about difficult-to-cut materials referred using water vapor as coolants and lubricants are discussed,. it can be though that water vapor as coolants and lubricants can reduce bonding abrasion and diffusing abrasion.
