Paticle of cationic Styrene acrylate emulsion has positive charge, so it can absorbe on electronegative fiber and increase the capability of paper. In this research, Styrene, butyl acrylate, acrylamide and diallyldimethyl ammonium chloride were chosen to prepare cationic Styrene acrylate emulsion, and the effect of mass ratio of monomers, mass fraction of initiator, emulsifier and total monomers, temperature, feeding methods, isopropanol and the kind of monomer on monomer conversion, cationic charge density, particle size, particle distribution and capability of emulsion were investigated. Finally, applied cationic Styrene acrylate emulsion in surface sizing and internal sizing. With the complex between cationic Styrene acrylate emulsion and enhancement agent, sizing degree and ring-crush strength of paper were increased. We made cationic Styrene acrylate emulsion as the emulsifier of rosin size and used a small quantity of sizing enhancement agent in the sizing, the result showed that it had significant sizing effect without aluminium sulfate.
