The development of economy accelerates human and society's progress. When enjoying the material and spiritual wealth, humanbeing bring various environment pollution and ecological crisis to the earth inevitably. The environment not only is supporting entire terrestrial system, but also is withstanding the waste which the humanity produces and discharges. All these have been resulting in global ecological damage and environmental pollution.The west of Jilin is a part of ecology frail belt in the north part of our country. In recently years, the latent ecosystem vulnerability is transforming the reality environment disaster gradually for the human activity to ecological environment's jamming intensity day by day. The land salivation, the lawn degenerates, the desertification, and the lake to wither, all these ecological environment questions are even serious day by day. The paper base on the remote sensing and GIS as technical support, research in the region criterion land utilization, the cover change and the ecosystem service value in the west of Jilin. The study applies many kinds of quantitative analysis to research in the land use/cover change, the land utilization change in space and time distribution for the past ten years, the forecast to its development change, the application ecosystem service value appraisal method, and the computation to the ecosystem service value. In order to protect the ecological environmental and make the region sustainable development in west of Jilin, this study has significance theory and the application value. The concrete research contents are as follows:1. Takeing LANDSAT TM, the pedological map and the geological and geomorphological map as the main information source. Established the west Jilin land utilization dynamic database in the aid of GIS. Spatial data including 1993, 2001, 2003 three years of land utilization vector data, as well as geography background message.2. Under the remote sensing and GIS technology's support, the land use/covering change information can be calculated according to the study area in 10 years land utilization change data. Then base on the mathematical model, we can forecast the land use change in the future 10 years, and carry on the examination to the forecast precision.3. The Chinese Land Ecosystem service value unit has been revised .So a new ecosystem service evaluation criteria has been established which suitable to our study. At last we try to find the relation between land use/cover change and the ecosystem service value change.
