The groundwater contamination by MSW landfills are introduced in this paper. Based on the detailed analysis of geology and hydro-geologic feature of interest area, which includes the typical landfills, the groundwater quality models are proposed. Then the movement of pollution factor, NO3-, is simulated and predicted. On the basis of prediction result, the remedial project of contamination area is developed. The main research results are summarized as following:The landfills are investigated, including the area, the height and the quantities of waste. Those landfills have become the main sources of groundwater contamination in the study area. Analysis results show groundwater around landfills are badly polluted, and NH4-, NO3-, total hardness, TDS are the contamination factors.NO3- is selected as pollution factor, and the groundwater quality model is set up. By using FEFLOW, which is based on finite element method, the solution of the equation has been got. And the movement of pollution factor is simulated and predicted. The result proves the pollution area and the concentration of NO3- are increasing annually.In order to control the groundwater contamination caused by landfills in the study area, a remedial project of contamination area has been developed.
