With regard to some shortages in waterborne polyurethane such as poor waterresistance, not so good high temperature resistance and so on, in this paper, throughmacromonomer radical copolymerization to incorporate fluoroalkyl chains to modifywaterborne polyurethane, novel waterborne fluorinated polyurethanes were synthesizedbased on two types of partly acrylate-endcapped polyurethane macromonomers, onearomatic type TDI, the other acyclic type IPDI, with octafluorobutyl acrylate (OFBA),respectively. The two types of macromonomers were characterized by FT-IR, ~1H NMR, GPC. Laserparticle size analyzer and transmission electron microscope (TEM) were applied tocharacterize and study the effects of various fluorine content on particle size, stability ofthe modified polymer's latex, and how the particles dispersed in the latex. And weinvestigated the properties of the copolymer' films such as mechanical property, the water-and solvent- resistance property, the thermal property, crystalline property and so on inorder to study the effects of the modification on the applying properties of the polymers.Additional, modern analysis methods, such as infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Attenuatedtotal reflection (ATR) spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), the thin-filmXRD, scanning electron spectroscopy(SEM)etc, were applied to study the structure of themodified waterborne polyurethane, discussed the relations between the structure andapplying properties of the modified waterborne polyurethane. The results of our study indicated that the modified waterborne polyurethane withoctafluorobutyl acrylate still has good dispersion property, obtained excellentwater-repellence, whose high temperature property was improved greatly too.
