Recent years, several malignant accidents that brought serious loss of property and personnel have taken place successively in course of producing, transporting, depositing and using the emulsion explosive, which increasingly make people have cognizance of considerable fatalness of emulsion explosive and begin to research its fatalness.In this paper, the thermal stability of emulsion matrix and emulsion explosive and their influencing factors were tested by improved iron-plate experiment, which provide theory of security for emulsion explosive in course of producing, transporting, depositing and using. The research results indicate:1. The combustion course of emulsion explosive is emulsion being destroyed, oil phase and water phase being separated, water being vaporized and organic matter being carbonized, then it ignited till reactant is consumed, finally flameout.2. Delay periods of emulsion explosive sensitized by different sensitizing way are obtained through the iron-plate experiment, under a series of the iron-plate temperature ;so reach the following conclusion: the delay periods of emulsion explosive chemically sensitized ,physically sensitized and compositely sensitized are more and more increasing, and its thermal stability is strengthen in turn.3. Basing on iron plate experiment, getting some active energy and correlative parameters of 1# emulsion matrix and emulsion explosive sensitized by different sensitizers, among which active energy of 1# emulsion matrix is 69.36 kJ/mol, and the active energy of emulsion explosive sensitized by chemical sensitizer, physical sensitizer and composite sensitizer are 87.32 kJ/mol,77.39 kJ/mol ,72.46 kJ/mol.4. Circumstance temperature has played great effect on thermal stability of emulsion explosive. Under the lower circumstance temperature, the thermal stability of emulsion explosive become worse and worse with the Delay periods declined though the iron-plate experiment.5. The size of iron-plate in the experiment has much effect on the experiment results. The more broader is the diameter of burning pool, and the more greater is effect.6. The mass of sample has played more effect on its thermal stability. The more mass is the sample, the more longer is delay periods in given temperature. That is, its thermal stability is better. Whereas, the thermal accumulated more and more quicker along with the mass of sample augmented, when thermal run up to the degree the sample can result in detonation, and develop into explosion.7. The different emulsion agents have played great effect on thermal stability of emulsion matrix and emulsion explosive. To enhance the thermal stability of emulsion matrix and emulsion explosive, the appropriate emulsion agents has been selected, which was provided for theory grounds.8) The different formulations have played much effect on thermal stability of emulsion matrix or emulsion explosive. So that appropriate formulations should be selected to enhance the thermal stability of emulsion matrix or emulsion explosive.9) The different amount of NaNO2 has played great effect on thermal stability of emulsion explosive. Basing on iron plate experiments, the delay periods of several samples have been gotten, which indicates that the more are amounts of NaNO2, the more smaller is the delay period, that is ,the more worse is its thermal stability. When the mount of NaNO2 is up to a certain level, the delay periods will be augmented.10) Basing on iron plate Comparing with the thermal stability of NT explosive and water-gel explosive, the conclusion has been reached that the thermal stability of emulsion explosive is of the best among those explosives.
