Aliphatic polyester, a kind of important environmental friendly polymer material, has attracted more and more attention because they possess excellent biodegradabilityand biocompatibility. In the dissertation, poly (3-hydroxypropionic acid) wasprepared by direct polycondensation of synthesized 3-hydroxypropionic acid. Maincontents are as follows.1. The advancement as well as its developmental tendency in aliphatic polyester wassummarized.2. The monomer 3-hydroxypropionic acid was synthesized by high temperaturehydration from acrylic acid and its structure was elaborately characterized byFT-IR and NMR.3. The polymerization conditions of 3-hydroxypropionic acid were optimized bypolycondensation. As a result, it was found that hafnium (â…£) tetrachloride wasthe highest efficient catalyst among investigated catalysts for polymerization of3-hydroxypropionic acid. Simultaneously, it is found that the average molecularweight of resultant polymers was lightly affected by catalyst amount andpolymerization time, and their structure and properties were characterized by FTIR,NMR, GPC, TGA and DSC.
