Spiral Up-Flow Reactor (SUFR) is a kind of new waste-water treatment technique with upright-reactor and mechanical diversion system. It's an optimum design of biologic treatment cell. During the operating of SUFR, high efficiency of nitrogen and phosphorus removal and can be reached and it can work stably. Based on tracer experiment and Phoenics 3.5, a computational fluid dynamics program, the hydraulic characteristics and flow model of Spiral-up flow reactor unit were investigated.The followings are studied:â‘ Studying on the flow-pattern of SUFR based on tracer experiment;â‘¡Studying on the flow-pattern of SUFR by the using of Phoenics 3.5, a computational fluid dynamics program;â‘¢Comparing the results of tracer experiment and CFD simulation ,analyzing the hydraulic characteristics and flow model of Spiral-up flow reactor.The tracer experiment shows that SUFR system has some plus-flow character, the anaerobic reactor unit,anoxic reactor unit and aerobic reactor unit could respectively be seen as the unit of three, two and two point five CSTR reactors respectively. The characteristic of flow pattern in SUFR is favorable to enhance gradient distributing of the substrate, prolong the retention time of the substrate in the reactor, and makes the SUFR be similar to plug-flow reactor and could increase the capacity utilization of the reactor.Mathematic models are established throw Phoenics3.5, then flowed the simulation. The concentration value of tracer, which from the tracer experiment is very similar to the value which from CFD simulation, this shows the results of simulation were reliable.The results show that the fluid in the reactor unit flow upward by the spiral way; the flow model in anaerobic reactor,anoxic reactor and aerobic reactor is respectively made up of a series of six, four and eight reactor units, where a plug flow reactor is followed by a complete-mix reactor; the plug flow pattern occupation rate of the reactor volume is respectively about 65%, 61%and 63%,and the Spiral-up flow reactor unit appears obvious plug flow pattern.
