The paper studies failure modes of slope in loess basement dumping site. It is pointed out that failure of loess basement is the key of stability, evolution of weak interbed is the interior factor and high strength and speed discharge is triggering condition.According to the geology of loess basement dump of a mine , sarma method of limiting-equilibrium theory is used to design reasonable slope-angle and slope-high. The designing slope-angle is 16o and slope-high is 1260m. Neural network toolbox of MATLAB is applied to evaluate slope stability. The result shows the slope is stable under designing angle and high. Using Fish language of FLAC3D, computer codes which describe slope load are written. Model 1 and model 2 are establidhed. Numerical simulation result shows: loess basement in model 1 occurs plastic zone , but it doesn't connect with the surface of slope, so the slope is stable; loess interbed in model 2 occurs large areas of plastic zone and connects with the surface of slope, so the slope is unstable. This is consistent with actual failure condition. On the basis of analyzing stability factors of slope, the right methods are given to prevent the dump disaster.
