This paper bases on the point of researching and developing wastewater anaerobic treatment technologies and processes with the traits of low cost, high capacity, stability and flexibility to treat chemical wastewater as sorbic acid. Anaerobic baffled reactor(ABR) is selected from numerous anaerobic reactors owing to its advantages of simple structure, as well as high removal efficiency. In this study, lab-scale experiments were conducted in a continuous-flow ABR to investigate removal efficiency of high organic concentration sorbic acid wastewater treatment, kinetics of substrate biodegradation and the characteristics of granular sludge. The experiment is conducted under three different sludge loading rate of 0.54,0.76 and 1.63 kgCOD/(kgVSS·d) with chemical oxygen demand removal eifficiency achievement of 78~85%, 66~76% and 44~55% respectively. The experiment results shows that high removal efficiency can not achieve in short hydraulic retention times treating sorbic acid wastewater containing hard biodegradation substrate with ABR.As hydraulic retention times prolonged, high removal efficiency achieves. The COD removal efficiency keeps increasing while hydraulic retention times prolongs to 72hours,but the increasing tendency obviously slows down. This phenomenon indicates that the most part of easy biodegradation substrate is completely biodegraded and more hydraulic retention times is necessary in order to biodegrade the hard biodegradation substrate. From the point of COD removal contribution, the three front compartments almost keeps stable under different sludge loading...
