Superabsorbents are loosely crosslinked hydrophilic polymers, which have the ability to absorb considerable amounts of water or aqueous fluids in relatively short periods of time and retain water under pressure. Because of their excellent characteristics, superabsorbents are widely used in agriculture, horticulture, sealing composite and medicine for drug delivery and so on.A superabsorbent resistant to saline solution was prepared by copolymer of acrylate acid and acrylamide with potassium persulphate-sodium thiosulfate as initiator, N,N'-methylene-bis-acylamide as crosslinking agent, acrylic acid and acrylamide as start materials, by means of aqueous solution copolymerization. The influence of mole ratio of acrylamide(AM) to acrylic acid (AA), degree of neutralization of AA, the amount of crosslinking agent and initiator on water and salt aborsorbency was investigated and optimized, and optimum polymerization conditions were obtained. The maximal water and 0.9% NaCl salt solution absorbency of the superabsorbent were 1840g/g and 162g/g, respectively. And water-absorption speed, retain water and thermal stability of the superabsorbent were investigated.Potassium dihydrogen phosphate and urea were added in solution polymerization of acrylic acid and acrylamide. The influence of Crosslinking agent and others influencing factors on the water absorbency of the superabsorbent were investigated when Potassium dihydrogen phosphate and urea exist in the superabsorbent resin, and compare with pure the superabsorbent resin. Optimum polymerization conditions were obtained. The water and 0.9% NaCl salt solution absorbency of the superabsorbent with effect of fertilizer were 800g/g and 85g/g.
