Rosin are important reproducible natural resource and important chemical products, it is gradually playing a key role on national economy. Especially due to the reduction of petroleum, how to use of rosin to replace some the petroleum are exploit high adding value profundity products base on the structure characteristic is an exact problem faced with the forestry chemistry. The preparation of polymer emulsion with rosin is a hotspot now. In this paper, rosin-acrylic hybrid latexes are prepared by miniemulsion polymerization and analyzed by different ways. The preparative technics, particle structure and properties are also discussed and compared with the blend latexes.In this paper, there are two steps to prepare the rosin-acrylic hybrid latexes. First the desired amount of rosin was dissolved into acrylic monomer and achieved the homogenous solution, then the solution was mixed with the water that the surfactant has been dissolved in and sheared for 10 min(1000rpm), the pre-emulsion was sonicated for 10 min with ultrosonicfier, the monomer miniemulsion is prepared. Secondly the monomer miniemulsion are transferred to a reaction tank and initiated. The rosin-acrylic hybrid latexes are prepared. The relevant reports about the preparation of rosin-acrylic hybrid polymerization by miniemulsion polymerization haven't seen before.During the experiments, we took the serial testing on the rosin-acrylic hybrid latexes and drought some conclusion.(1)The result of the test of light scatting and TEM are consistent. During the polymerization, the size of particle is quite stable, and not very different from the initial droplet size. The droplet nucleation is main nucleation way in the rosin-acrylic hybrid polymeriation, which is the character of miniemulsion polymerization.(2)Analyzed by DSC, rosin and acrylic polymer are relatively compatible in the hybrid latexes particles. Rosin plays the role of plasticizer and adhesion booster, which decrease the Tg of the hybrid polymer.
