Poly(aryl ether ketone)s are high performance engineering plastics with outstanding physical, chemical, thermal and mechanical properties. As the most famous and important member of poly(aryl ether ketone)s family, poly(ether ether ketone)s (PEEK) can meet the requirements and be widely used in many fields. However, in order to satisfy the demands of high technology and aerospace industry, a lot of modifications must be made for PEEK.The synthetic route of 1.4-bis(4-chlorobenzoyl)benzene was also studied through orthogonal experiment systemically by discussing the adding methods, the amount of monomer, reaction temperature, reaction time and treatment methods in this paper. The yield and purity of resultant product were 90.10% and 99%, respectively.A series of copoly(phthalazinone ether ketone ketone)s derived from BCBB(or BFBB), DHPZ and HQ were synthesized by modest aromatic nucleophilic substitution reaction. The solubility of copoly(phthalazinone ether ketone ketone)s was tested by solubility experiments, and the results indicated that the solubility of these copolymers increased evidently with the rising of DHPZ content. At the same time, these copolymers also had excellent thermal properties. The improved solubility and high thermal properties can be attributed to the introduction of twisted and non-coplanar phthalazinone structure into the backbone.In order to improve the polymer solubility and reaction condition, five kinds of copoly(phthalazinone ether ketone)s were synthesized from DHPZ, OM-DHPZ, and DM-DHPZ, with HQ and DFK, respectively. The structures were also confirmed by 1H NMR and FT IR. All of the copoly(phthalazinone ether ketone)s showed good solubility in some common polar non-protonic organic solvents such as chloroform (CHCl3), N-methylpyrrolidinone (NMP) and nitrobenzene (NB) etc.. The Tg values of DM-DHPZ containing copoly(phthalazinone ether ketone)s ranged from 229 to 275℃, and the Td values with 5% weight loss temperature were all higher than 485℃.
