Chinese herb medicine "jin yao zi", its English name is Chrysosplenium altemifolium L.(Saxifragaceae). The whole plant can be used as medicine and be used for treatment many illnesses, so we researched it on its composions. On its volatile compositions, we treated the dried, cut whole plant by wet distillation, added appropriate NaCI to the distillate to salt out water soluble volatile components, then extracted the distillate with ethyl ether, separated out the layer of ethyl ether, dried with thenardfte, filtered and concentrated. We detected twenty eight compounds and confirmed sixteen compounds. The main composions were alkanes(containing 10-20 carbon atoms) , 3-methyl-2-Butanol, tetradecanoic acid and 1,2-Benzenedicarboxylic acid, etc.. On its involatile compositions, we used industrial MeOH extracted the dried, cut whole plant, filtered the extact and concentrated it. The MeOH extract cream was solved with water, then the water layer was extracted with Petrol, CHCb. CH3COOC2H5 and n-Butanol in order and concentrated the extracts respectively. The Petrol extract was chromatographed on Si gel by stepwise elution with a Petrol and CH3COOC2H5 mixtrure, we separated 4',5-dihydroxy- 2',3,6,7- tetramethoxyflavone (1), compound (2)(betonging to triterpenoid compound, structure was not determind, supposeded it as (3 -peltoboykinolic acid ) and 2',5- dihydroxy- 3,4', 5', 6, 7 - pentamethoxyflavone (3). The CHCI3 extract was chromatographed on Si gel by stepwise elution with a CHCI3 and MeOH mixture, then performed preparative layer chromatography separations, mainly afforded compound (3) and very small quantity compound (1). The residue which was not soluble' to water was dried and chromatographed on Si gel by stepwise elution with a Petrol and CH3COOC2H5 mixture, afforded compound (1), compound (2) and compound(3). They were new compounds from this plant. We determinded the structures of compounds (1) and (3) on the basis of their 1H-NMR spectra, 13C-NMR spectra, IR spectra, UV spectra and MS spectra.
