The key step of dolomite carbonation for preparing light magnesium oxide is studied which includes the optimum condition of the process and choosing additives.Based on the simulating component of the industrial gas, firstly the optimum condition of carbonation without additives is obtained. Under this optimum condition, the recovery of magnesium oxide can reach 63.8%,carbonation time is 65min.Following that ,two effective additives -syclotersuphone and methenamine are found by series experiments. With orthogonal experiments, the two additives' optimum conditions and the recoveries of magnesium oxide are obtained. By economic returns, methenamine are more effective.Finaly, by the means of XRD, IR, the effects of magnesium on the direct-product light magnesium oxirde and the surface property of the by-product Calcium Carbonate are investfgated. That proveded that methenamine is a kind of ideal additive. Under optimum condition of dolomite carbonation with methenamine ,the recovery of magnesium oxide can reach 77.2%,carbonation time is 43min.
