The Characteristics Of Climate Variability In Fujian Province From 1961 To 2006

In this paper, climatic changes of precipitation and air temperature, characteristics of extremely hot days in Fujian province and hot days in Fuzhou were studied based on climate data including precipitation and air temperature data of 64 observational stations in Fujian province between 1961 and 2006. Statistical and synoptic methods were utilized in this paper, such as Tendency Analysis, Regression Analysis, Empirical Orthogonal Function (EOF) decomposition, and Rotated EOF (REOF).The statistical results show that: v1. Climatic tendency of precipitation in Fujian province is: yearly and summer precipitation increase significantly; spring precipitation increases a little; precipitation during rainy season decreases slightly. The decadal variability of precipitation in Fujian Province was also studied in this paper.2. Patterns of precipitation in the whole year, in rainy season and in summer in Fujian Province can be divided into three regions, which are mainly in north-south direction. The pattern of spring precipitation can be divided into two regions: east region and west region.3. Climatic tendency of air temperature in Fujian province is that yearly, January, April, July and October average air temperature all increase. Yearly and January air temperature, in particular, the tendency coefficient reaches 0.547 and 0.396 respectively. The next is October, tendency coefficient of which is 0.277, while average air temperature of April and July increases only a little. The decadal variability of air temperature in Fujian Province was also investigated in this paper.4. Extremely hot days in Fujian mainly occur in the middle and last ten days of July and the first ten days of August. The area where extremely hot days last more than 10 days is mainly in the central parts of Fujian. Hot days in Fuzhou mainly occur in July and August.
