Red tide is a kind of marine disaster that occurs in South China Sea frequently. To enhance the capacity of disaster prevention and reduction of red tide, red tide is an urgent need for the forecasting project. The research and development of Red tide forecasting methods and models is inseparable from the application of the laws of the occurrence and development of red tide. Chinese and foreign scholars' study showed changes of the hydro-meteorological factors, such as wind, pressure, temperature, illumination, water temperature, tidal and sea current, are related to the occurrence and development of red tides, but the study is aimed at a limited space or a red tide biological events, 1 lack of overall and systematic overview about red tides in South China Sea. The purpose of this study is through comprehensive analysis to reveal the hydro-meteorological elements evolution patterns around the occurrence of red tide in South China Sea.Study period, the researcher collect, collate a lot of studies, including the South China Sea previous red tide occurrence date, duration, location, the red tide biological species, red tide disaster losses, and other information, and the original observations of hydrological elements (water temperature, salinity, wave, tidal) and meteorological elements (wind direction, wind speed, atmospheric pressure, temperature, precipitation) during the period of 7 days before the South China Sea red tide occurred and of red tide survival phase. On this basis, the researcher conducted a series of statistical analysis and survey research, made some representatives study conclusions of the South China Sea red tide events. The paper analyzes the space-time distribution of the previous red tide incidents occurred in South China Sea, and explores the reasons of the distribution features from geographical environment, regional socio-economic development and meteorology or climate change. The study also finds that nearly 10 years the average duration of the red tides is up more than 10 years ago, which may relate to global wanning and regional environmental quality deteriorated.Through numerical statistics, the variation scopes and evolution characteristics of the elements (such as water temperature, atmospheric temperature, atmospheric pressure, wind speed, salinity, and the temperature difference between water and air) around the occurrence of red tide in South China Sea are well known. From statistics, a conclusion is drown that weather processes of temperature rising with air pressure dropping, stable temperature and pressure, small temperature difference between water and air are all advantageous to the occurrence and...
