In this paper, the forest area Sheshan is selected as the research area, which is in the suburb of Shanghai. Through field survey and several kinds of analyses, the plant diversity and distribution characteristics are studied. Sheshan is between 31°1'N and 121°15'E, located in Songjiang and Qingpu District and it is the only mountain in Shanghai.The field survey is during 2005~2006 has totally four times in three seasons. The research area includes 10 hills from East- North to South-West such as Fenghuang shan, Xueshan, Eastshe shan, Westshe shan, Chenshan, Zhongjia shan, Tianma shan, Jishan, Hengshan and Xiaokun shan. The highest sea level is 99.8 m, with a center area of about 5100 mu . The main type of vegetation is secondary deciduous broad-leaved forest. The target groups mainly include spontaneous vascular plants in ten hills, plants in surrounding farms, villages and lakes are not included. Time-space analysis is used in the paper. Through analysis of time, it is compared with the seed plants records in (cultivated vegetation not included) in 1983 as to reflect variety characteristic of spontaneous vascular plants in recent twenty years of Sheshan. It can probe current status and dynamic development trend in future during the research of vegetation flora, such as species numbers, life form, and compared flora with Shanghai, Tiantong and Tianmu shan. Through analysis of space, it can reflect vegetation distributing characteristic and succession of each hill by comparison of species numbers and area of hills, life form and wide-distributed species.According to statistics in 2005~2006, Sheshan has 325 spontaneous vascular plants, belonging to 80 families and 215 genera, 11 species of pteridophyte, belonging to 8 families and 10 genera, 314 seed plants, belonging to 72 families and 205 genera. All of them are angiosperms. There are 255 dicotyledoneae, belonging to 63 families and 165 genera; 59 monocotyledoneae, belonging to 9 families and 40 genera.
