Dunhuang Diseases,Plague And Medical Research In The Late Tang,Five Dynasties And Early Song Dynasty

There are a large number of documents related to diseases and medical treatment in Dunhuang literature,which are important materials for studying the social history of Dunhuang medical treatment in the middle ancient times,especially in the late Tang,Five Dynasties and early Song Dynasty.On the basis of previous studies,this paper divides the article into five parts to study the general situation of disease and medical treatment,religious medical treatment,cultural beliefs and customs related,plague and its influence on local government,measures of Guiyijun government to deal with the plague and related social activities.In the late Tang,Five Dynasties and early Song Dynasty,the disease problems faced by Dunhuang people were recorded in various documents.At that time,Dunhuang had a relatively complete medical system,but for ordinary people,simple and easy self-care means were the main medical choices when they faced diseases.In addition to the medical treatment in the sense of modern medicine,Dunhuang also has abundant religious treatment rituals,including disease divination,Taoist treatment rituals and Buddhist treatment rituals.These rituals connect diseases with a wide range of ghosts and gods,morality,living environment and other issues,and play an important medical role in the society at that time.They are an important medical choice for patients to seek medical advice without consequences,and an important part of Dunhuang medical treatment.In addition,there are a large number of diseases and medical related cultural beliefs and social customs in Dunhuang literature.The plague was prevalent in Dunhuang in the late Tang Dynasty,the Five Dynasties and the early Song Dynasty.There was a large amount of information about the plague in Dunhuang literature,including four serious plagues.These four plagues had an impact on Dunhuang local politics,and some even changed the direction of Dunhuang history.In the face of plague,the Buddhist activities led by the Guiyi Army were the main way for the society to deal with the plague at that time.The prevalence of disease-themed murals in Dunhuang caves was also related to the social reality of the prevalence of the disease at that time.The topic selection of Dunhuang medical social history helps to comprehensively understand the social life of grassroots people in the Tang,Five Dynasties and the early Song Dynasty,especially diseases and medical conditions.At the time of the transformation of Dunhuang studies in the new century,it is of great significance for the study of the history of the Tang and Five Dynasties,Dunhuang studies and medical social history to try to use comprehensive interdisciplinary,combine the research theory of medical social history and the existing achievements of Dunhuang social history,break through the classical schema of the study of ancient history,and take Dunhuang literature as the center to study the medical social history of Dunhuang.
