The acceleration of Economic globalization and the deepening of reform and opening make innovation the theme of the development of the times.Advances in science and technology have shortened the life cycle of products.The development of social economy has exacerbated the diversification of product demands,and the competition among enterprises has become increasingly fierce.The development and launch of new products have become the focus of competition among similar companies.New product development capability has become a key factor for companies to obtain sustainable competitive advantage.But for most companies,relying on their own resources and capabilities to improve the speed of new product development and commercialization process is difficult.In order to respond to the complex and dynamic market environment,enterprises have changed the traditional innovation model into an open innovation model.The existing research analyzes the influence of interaction between companies on new product development capability from the perspective of knowledge diversification,resource differentiation,and supply chain enterprise integration.However,it ignores the top managerial ties impact the new product development capability.The influence of top managerial ties on business development in the context of transition economies has been recognized by scholars,but the effect of top managerial ties on corporate performance has not been unanimously approved.It need the in-depth analysis of top managerial ties to business performance.Therefore,this dissertation focuses on analyzing the effect of top managerial ties on the impact of new product development capability.It has been found that top managerial ties expand the boundaries of enterprise resources,enhance the cooperation and exchange among enterprises,which can help enterprises to access opportunities,utilize resources and promote open innovation.Based on the existing researchs,this dissertation aims to answer the core question of"how top managerial ties influence new product development capability".Specifically,this question can be decomposed into the following three issues.First,what is the relationship between top managerial ties and new product development capability?Secondly,what is the mechanism betweem top managerial ties and new product development capability?Thirdly,what are the effects of environmental uncertainty and enterprise scale on this mechanism?In order to explain the above questions,this dissertation mainly studies the following parts:First,Literatures review.Through systematically analyzing of literatures related to the research questions,clarified the concepts and elements of the key variables such as top managerial ties,new product development capability,entrepreneurial orientation and environmental uncertainty.It provides the theoretical support for the construction of the analytical framework by reviewing enterprise competence theory,social capital and cognitive basis.Secondly,Exploratory case studies and theoretical framework construct.Six typical cases are chosen for exploratory case studies.Based on theoretical presupposition,data collection,within-case analysis and comparison among those cases,this dissertationreveals the influence of top managerial ties on new product development capability through capture opportunity and entrepreneurial orientation,which provides a construct for future studies.Thirdly,Theoretical model and empirical study of the relationship between the top managerial ties and new product development capability.Based on exploratory case studies and in-depth theoretical analysis,this dissertation introduced environmental uncertainty and enterprise scale,then put forward a concept model of top managerial ties influence mechanism.210 firms are investigated via questionnaires,and factor analysis,structural equation modeling and multiple regression analysis are conducted to testify and modify the concept model.The theoretical model is confirmed,and draws the research conclusions.Through the above qualitative and quantitative research work,this dissertation draws the following conclusions:First,Top managerial ties have positive effects on enterprise new product development capabilitiy.Top managerial business ties and political ties may truly improve new product development capability.Secondly,Top managerial ties influence new product development capability indirectly through the mediating roles of capture opportunity and entrepreneurial orientation.In particular,top managerial business ties have both direct and indirect mechanisms effects on new product development capability.The influence of top managerial political ties on new product development capability can only be achieved through an indirect path.Thirdly,Environmental uncertainty and enterprise scale act as moderate factors in influence mechanism of top managerial ties on new product development capability.The environmental uncertainty weak the positive influence of top managerial ties on opportunity capture,then reduce the choice of entrepreneurial orientation.The greater enterprise scale,the greater the influence of top managerial ties on opportunity capture.Compared with the existing research,this dissertation provides the following contributions.First,it reveals the essential process of the top managerial ties on new product development capability.It builds up linkages among social capital,corporate capabilities,and cognitive theory to open the black-box of how the top managerial ties act on new product development capability.The strategic choice mechanism affects the relationship between top managerial ties and new product development capability.It establishes a theoretical framework for top managerial ties—opportunity capture-entrepreneurial orientation—new product development capability,and extends the influence of top managerial ties on companies to new product development capability,builds a relationship between top managerial ties and dynamic capabilities.Secondly,Focused influence of executives on the strategic decision-making behavior of the company,from the perspective of cognitive,it analyzes the multi-chain mediating effect of "opportunity capture-entrepreneurial orientation”between top managerial ties and new product development capability.Based on exploratory study studies and large sample statistical research,this dissertation confirms the mediating role of opportunity capture in the relationship between executives and entrepreneurship,and expands the perspective of entrepreneurial orientation research.Thirdly,it explains the influence mechanisms of top managerial ties on entrepreneurial orientation under different environmental uncertainty and enterprise scale.This dissertation analyzes the mechanism between executives to entrepreneurship from the perspective of managerial cognition.This dissertation confirms that environmental uncertainty influences the entrepreneurial orientation formation by influencing opportunities capture and analyzes the effect of enterprise scale on the top managerial ties and opportunities capture.This research enriches the research situation of entrepreneurial orientation formation mechanism.
